| Senior Pastor - Fred Miller |
|
|
Fred was raised in a strong Christian home and has loved and followed Jesus from childhood. He attended Drexel University in Philadelphia and credits much of his intellectual foundations of his faith to the influence of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship there and the books he was exposed to. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Drexel in 1973.
During his college years he met Cathy Gutsche in Annapolis, Maryland, and they married in 1974. After working several years in the engineering field, he helped start a ministry-oriented Christian bookstore in Princeton, NJ and served as its manager/minister for 8 years. During this time he helped start an Evangelical Free Church in the area and later left the bookstore ministry to pastor half-time in the church. Over the next fourteen years he filled out his vocation mostly with handyman work for an office building and his own home repair business. In 1997 Fred came to Cumberland Valley Church as its senior pastor.
Cathy is a senior director with Creative Memories, a home-based scrapbooking business. She is also very involved in a MOMS ministry at the church and leads the Children's ministry. Fred’s primary theological training comes from reading many great books and engaging in stimulating discussions with people who like to explore the Bible and its message for people today. For fun, he reads, gardens, coaches youth lacrosse, does handyman projects for his wife and friends, occasionally golfs and plays table tennis, and thinks a lot about how the church can best glorify God. Fred and Cathy have three married children - Katie (and Eric) Hanson, Brian (and Nicole) Miller, and Jeff (and Shannon) Miller. And their 5 grandchildren give them great joy!

| Associate Pastor - Jeff Miller |
|
|
Jeff had the priviledge of growing up in an authentic Christian home and much of his passion for Jesus flows out of what he saw modeled at home. Growing up both in Princeton, NJ and Dillsburg, PA he attended Eastern University in St. Davids, PA and graduated with a major in Youth Ministry and a minor in Biblical Studies. From there he went on to live in downtown Chicago while he got his Masters in Pastoral Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, IN.
In 2004, Jeff agreed to become the part-time youth pastor at CVC and worked there to help minister to the studen ts at CVC and beyond. After working at that position for over two years, Jeff was hired on as associate pastor in the Fall of 2006. His responsibilities alongside the youth include overseeing local, social and foreign outreach as well as providing leadership to other areas of the church. He also shares in some of the preaching responsibilities.
Jeff has a passion for Jesus, teenagers, and all people in general. But next to his Savior, his deepest passion is to his beautiful wife, Shannon. They were married in June of 2007. He loves playing all kinds of sports, coaching lacrosse, playing guitar, listening to music, reading and discussing theology, and helping youth develop their faith. He enjoys using his creative skills to inspire people and to further God's Kingdom on this earth. And if you're wondering - yes, he's Fred's son.

| Administrative Assistant - Sue Lawver |
|
Sue was raised in a Christian home in York, PA, and was led to ask Jesus into her life when she was a little girl by her mother.
She met her husband, Mike, in 1972 during his senior year at Messiah College. Following his graduation in May of that year, Mike began full-time ministry with the Jacobs Brothers Evangelistic Association, an evangelistic team that travels across the country sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through gospel music. Sue and Mike were married in July of 1973. They are the parents of two children, Amy Harlacher (married to Mahlon) and Tim Lawver - and the happy grandparents of Elliot and Sophie. For fun, Sue enjoys reading, spending time with Mike and their family, and of course, playing with Elliot and Sophie.
Sue has been a blessing to the pastoral staff of CVC since 1983. Her efficient and servant attitude lays out the bulletin every week, fills out reports, cheerfully answers the phones, keeps our database current, and does whatever else the pastors don't want to do! |
